I Remember the Day

I still remember it like it was yesterday...

I remember waking up to the news that a plane had hit the twin towers. I was only 12 years old at the time and in 7th grade. I was pretty innocent at the time and don't understand the magnitude of what had happened. If I had I probably would have been nervous. Because of my innocence however and because I have always liked action and I was a curious person I felt excitement instead. I had no clue what was going on, all I knew was that i was interesting, that something had happened and everyone was talking about it. I remember I got ready for school as fast as I could that day and returned to the TV as soon as I could. I watched that TV for as long as I could before I had to go to school. That was a truly interesting morning and it had brought something to me that was completely brand new.

I had my full attention on the events of that day while they were happening. Every school in the TV was on in the school that day pretty much. I remember wherever I went I could watch what was happening, or even when I couldn't see a TV people were talking about what was happening. I was really interested and intrigued by what was happening on that day. I had no fear, just curiosity. I felt like I was watching a movie unfold through the day, it felt kind of unreal to me at the time. Every time something new happened I went looking for more information, I listened o the conversations around me, took in every detail I could.

I spent most of that day watching TV, watching the scenes unfold over and over. Al my attention was focused on what was happening, I was wondering what would happen next, and what was happening in the places I couldn't see. I had heard of bombs, wars, and stuff like that but I had never been through anything like September 11th before.

If I wasn't at a TV I could hear a  radio. People in and out of my family were talking about the events. I took as much info as I could as fast as I could. I wanted to know every detail, see pictures, and video, etc. I, never even once felt even a slight tinge of fear that day it was strange. It probably had to do with my age like I said before.

Anyway, a year later I could kind of understand the magnitude of what happened better than I could when it actually happened.  It took me years to finally fully understand however just how bad it was and how much of an impact it was on the country. I can't really say I am scared of such things happening, I really don't worry about that kind of thing honestly, but I understand that they are serious.

Anyway, these are my comments about the 10th anniversary of September 11th.

I just wet to church today as usual, nothing much has happened today. I have been playing tetris and reading manga for most of the day and just being lazy. I was really hoping Darik and Dylan would show up at the ward today. I have been waiting for them to show up for a couple of weeks. I don't really go just to see them but it is nice when they come. I really miss them a lot, they were gone for the past 4 months doing work related stuff for Vivint. those two make me really happy, they are amazing people. I have known them for 11 years and they have had a huge impact on my life in ways people can't even imagine.

Anyway, I really hope I see them soon, that would be nice. I guess that is all for today. I don't think anything else is going to happen.

September 11th... My Story. :)

I never got to my September 11th post yesterday, sorry about that. It is now September 12th.

I fell asleep for part of the day yesterday and completely forgot I was going to write it. I also got distracted by a church meeting I was supposed to go to and completely forgot, I wasn’t ready to go and I had to miss it and that totally took my thoughts elsewhere.  Yesterday I just spent most of the day rememiscing in the past and watching youtube videos. I’ll tell you my story from that day.

It was 10 days before the end of summer on September 11th. I was sleeping when my mom came into my room, turned on my light, and gave me the news. “A Jet has just hit one of the twin towers.” , she said. I was still in a sleepy daze but I heard what she said, even though I did not completely register the seriousness. I stumbled out of bed got my clothes on and went upstairs. I watched the TV with awe, I did not really get what was going on but it looked serious. I started to get ready for school, went along with my day as I usually did before school. Not to long after I woke up though, and started to go about my day as normal after seeing it the 2nd plane hit (according the the video i am watching right now it was at 7:03am, so not very much time had passed since I left the TV. I was still a little un serious about it at that time. I was not accustomed to things like this happening, at least not to my knowledge, I was very innocent at the time.  I just stood there at the TV an watched for a while not knowing what to think about it.

I went to school as usual after these events, everyone was buzzing about it. I just sort of dismissed it and went along to my classes.

It wasn’t until lunch, about 12 noon that I was caught up with the news. I had heard rumors like the towers had fallen, and the pentagon was hit and stuff like that but I never really got to see for myself, until lunch that is.

I wasn’t really scared at all, just surprised, and a little shocked. I’m pretty sure if I had been a bit older I would have been a little scared, but being young I was more curious than anything else. I sat on top of one of the lunch tables and just watched the TV for the whole lunch period, completely glued to it. I found it very exciting.

I should probably add that that day was the first day I had ever heard of Islam as well. It’s been an interesting 9 years since then. I find it to be a very interesting religion, but unlike a lot of people I do not hate Muslims, nor do I think they are all bad. Some of them are misled however, not all of the though. I am not one to condemn a whole religion just because of a few mistakes made by a few people.

Anyway, they had the news and stuff broadcasting in the classrooms through out the school day. Most of the time the sound was just turned down, or completely off, and some classrooms we watched the news for a few minutes and then went about our day.

I couldn't’t wait to get home. I wanted to just watch everything that was happening that day.

When I got home I spent a large amount of time just watching the TV. in fact I’m pretty sure besides a bit of homework, that was the only thing that occupied my time that day. I didn’t want to miss a thing.

Yeah, so that was an interesting day. I wish I had a bit more detail but it was 9 years ago, and memories fade. I guess this will have to do though.

Oh and for the record I started typing this on September 12th, but got a bit lazy. it is now September 14th.  :p
