Well, I did it! It was another crazy day, but I did it! Late last night after I finished my last entry I figured out how to reformat and reinstall Windows 7. I did a complete clean install and figured out how to install the drivers as well. I had to go to bed after I ran into the snag of not knowing the password to the internet, but I got the networks set up and everything. It did take me a little while to figure out how to do it, but when I found my driver and software CD everything fell into place.
The picture above is from this morning after I got the password to the network from dad and was doing a windows update. the update took forever, but it got done. The windows 10 update wasn't showing, and somehow after searching for a while I actually found out how to download it from an official source and started the process I tried yesterday all over again. I was a LOT more patient this time. I did the download and the install, and this time I waited a couple of hours instead of trying to turn off the computer after the black screen came on. My computer restarted a few times and the installation screen for the operating system showed up a few times. I quit watching and just let it be. Something I read on the Windows 10 forum made me think that if I waited long enough that everything world work itself out. Some other people had to wait for literally hours for their installation to finish.
I heard my computer go to sleep after a while of waiting and I went to turn it on expecting a black screen, but I saw the setup screen for Windows 10 instead! I can't even tell you how happy I was. I went through the setup and finally made it to the desktop. I immediately started the automatic updates and updated everything.
Things went pretty smoothly after this. I had one scare where after I had to restart my screen went to black after boot again, but I figured out if I press my power button and put my laptop to sleep for a second and then wake it up it will go to the login screen. I'll figure out how to fix this little problem later, but for now I'll just deal with it. I've been customizing the look and downloading programs that I need. I think I have the basics down. I am really glad this is over now. I feel like my technical skills have leveled up a lot today and yesterday! I have a lot of valuable skills that I'll be able to use in the future! Anyway, I'm going to sleep now. It's been a long day.
